A narcissist paints a picture of themselves as being the victim or innocent in all aspects. They will be offended by the truth. But what is done in the dark will come to light. Time has a way of showing people's true colors."

Narcissists thrive on creating illusions. They carefully construct a false image of themselves as kind, caring, misunderstood — anything but responsible for the pain they cause. When held accountable, they flip the script and cast themselves as the wounded party, using guilt, manipulation, and emotional distortion to maintain control over others. They are deeply threatened by truth because truth has the power to unravel the fantasy they’ve so carefully woven.

To protect their façade, they often lie, gaslight, and project their flaws onto others. If you dare to call out their behavior, they’ll accuse you of being the problem — dramatic, unstable, unforgiving. But these are defense mechanisms, not reflections of your reality. Narcissists don’t seek resolution; they seek control. They aren’t interested in healing; they are invested in winning, even if it means tearing others down.

What they forget is that truth does not stay buried. Lies eventually crumble. People begin to notice patterns — the inconsistencies in their stories, the trail of hurt left behind, the cycle of chaos that follows them from one relationship to the next. Slowly but surely, the mask begins to slip. And when it does, the very people they fooled will start to see through the illusion.

Time is a powerful revealer. It doesn’t just expose deception — it highlights character. The narcissist may manipulate for a while, but they can’t outrun the consequences of their actions forever. What is done in secrecy will eventually echo in the open. Their charm fades, their lies unravel, and the truth, steady and unshakable, stands in its place.

So if you've been hurt by someone like this, remember: you don’t need to convince everyone of what really happened. You don’t have to fight their smear campaign or stoop to their level. Just keep standing in your truth. Stay grounded. Let time do what it does best. Because in the end, people always reveal who they truly are — and when they do, the world will finally see what you already knew.
