Who says Halloween food has to be all candy, cupcakes, and things shaped like severed fingers? ๐
We're bringing a little spooky sophistication to the kitchen with a Blackened Halloween Grilled Caprese Sandwich!
Imagine crispy, buttery, dark-toasted sourdough, gooey melted mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, fresh basil, and a drizzle of sweet balsamic glaze. And for a little Halloween magic? We're adding spooky mozzarella ghosts! ๐ป
It's cheesy, a little creepy, and ridiculously delicious. Even Dracula would come out of his coffin for this one! ๐ง♂️
๐ Ingredients (Makes 2 sandwiches)
4 thick slices sourdough bread (or dark pumpernickel for an extra spooky look!)
6 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
1 large ripe tomato, sliced
6–8 fresh basil leaves
2 tablespoons softened butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper
4 sliced black olives, for spooky decorations
Optional: 2 tablespoons basil pesto for extra flavor
๐ฉ๐ณ Let's Get Spooky in the Kitchen!
1. Create your little mozzarella ghosts! ๐ป
Using a small ghost-shaped cookie cutter (or a sharp knife), cut a few mozzarella slices into adorable ghosts. Add tiny pieces of black olives for eyes. Set them aside for decorating.
2. Build your cheesy masterpiece! ๐ง
Layer mozzarella, juicy tomato slices, and fresh basil onto two slices of bread. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add a little pesto if you're feeling fancy.
Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze and top with the remaining bread.
3. Give it that wickedly dark crunch! ๐ฅ
Mix the softened butter with a little garlic powder and spread it on the outside of each sandwich.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Grill the sandwiches for approximately 3–5 minutes per side, until the bread is deeply golden and crispy and the mozzarella is beautifully melted.
Want a darker Halloween look? Use pumpernickel or dark rye bread rather than burning your sandwich. We're going for spooky, not a kitchen fire! ๐
4. Add your spooky finishing touches! ๐
Cut the sandwiches diagonally and arrange them on a plate. Place your little mozzarella ghosts on top, add a few fresh basil leaves, and drizzle with balsamic glaze.
For extra Halloween flair, add black olive spiders or tiny pumpkin shapes cut from orange bell peppers!
๐งก A Few Wickedly Delicious Tips!
For extra crunch, sprinkle a little grated Parmesan on the buttered outside of the bread before grilling.
For a richer flavor, add a thin layer of basil pesto inside the sandwich.
And for a fun Halloween dinner, serve with a bowl of roasted tomato soup. Call it Witch's Brew and suddenly you've got yourself a spooky little feast! ๐ง♀️๐
๐ป The Final Bite!
Crispy bread, warm melted cheese, fresh tomatoes, fragrant basil, and that sweet balsamic drizzle?
Honey, this sandwich is so good it's scary! ๐
Perfect for Halloween lunch, a cozy October dinner, or feeding the little monsters before they raid the candy bowl.
Because let's face it… somebody in this house needs to eat something besides miniature Snickers! ๐ซ๐
Happy spooky cooking! ๐๐งก
