Born to Be Real: Why Perfect Is Overrated

Let’s get one thing straight—perfect is boring. Seriously. Perfection is a trap, a mirage, a glossy Instagram filter that makes everything look flawless but often hides the chaos underneath. And the truth? You weren’t born to fit into that mold. You were born to be real.

Being real doesn’t mean you’re flawless. It means you show up, warts and all. You mess up. You stumble. You laugh at your own awkwardness. You cry when life hits hard. You celebrate when life gives you wins, no matter how small. That’s the kind of authenticity that connects, that inspires, that makes people actually like being around you.

Here’s the kicker: chasing perfection can actually hold you back. You delay dreams because “it’s not perfect yet,” you hide your talents because “someone else does it better,” and worst of all—you forget to enjoy the journey because you’re too busy critiquing yourself.

So how do you embrace realness?

  1. Celebrate your quirks – Those little things you think are “weird” are exactly what make you, you. Own them.

  2. Fail forward – Every mistake is a lesson disguised in chaos. Take notes, laugh, and move on.

  3. Stop comparing – Perfection is subjective. Your journey is unique, so play your own game.

  4. Show up authentically – Be honest with yourself and others. Say no when you need to. Say yes when it lights you up.

Bob Marley said it best: “You were born to be real, not to be perfect.” So let’s give ourselves permission to stop trying to fit an impossible mold and start living fully, boldly, beautifully real.

Because real? Real is magnetic. Real is freeing. Real is the life you were born to live.
