You know what's one of the most freeing things about getting older?
Realizing that not everyone is going to like you, and you can actually survive that shocking discovery! π
Seriously. There was a time when I would overthink everything. Why didn't they like me? Did I say something wrong? Should I have handled things differently?
And sometimes, those are fair questions to ask ourselves.
But other times? You're simply dealing with people who aren't comfortable with honesty, boundaries, or someone who refuses to play along with nonsense.
And that's where things get interesting. π
Being Authentic Doesn't Mean Being Everyone's Favorite
I've learned that being genuine doesn't guarantee you'll be liked.
Some people appreciate honesty. Others prefer someone who tells them exactly what they want to hear.
Some respect boundaries. Others only liked you when you didn't have any.
And some people genuinely want to grow, while others would rather blame everyone around them than look in the mirror.
Accountability is a beautiful thing… until someone realizes it applies to them, too! π
Here's What I've Learned Along the Way
| What I Used to Think | What I Know Now |
|---|---|
| Everyone needs to like me. | I'm not everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay. |
| Rejection means something is wrong with me. | Sometimes it's incompatibility, not inadequacy. |
| I need to explain myself to everyone. | Not everyone deserves a front-row seat to my life. |
| Being kind means tolerating everything. | Kindness and boundaries can coexist. |
| Losing people means I've failed. | Sometimes losing connections is part of growing. |
| Being authentic means never changing. | Real authenticity includes accountability and growth. |
Now, Here's Where I Might Ruffle a Few Feathers! πͺΆπ
Not every person who walks away from you is intimidated by your strength.
Not everyone who disagrees with you is threatened by your authenticity.
And not every rejection means someone couldn't handle your greatness.
Sometimes we're wrong. Sometimes we're difficult. Sometimes WE need to do the work.
There, I said it! π
Self-awareness means recognizing the difference between someone disrespecting your boundaries and someone holding you accountable for your behavior.
Because let's be real, you can't preach accountability while acting like you're personally exempt from it.
That's not growth. That's hypocrisy wearing a motivational T-shirt! π€¦♀️
The Beauty of Finally Knowing Your Worth ❤️
At this stage of my life, I don't need a crowd.
I need genuine connections, mutual respect, honesty, laughter, and people who bring peace instead of unnecessary chaos.
I don't need everyone to understand me.
I don't need to win every argument.
And I certainly don't need to convince someone of my worth.
I know who I am. I know what I bring to the table. And I also know I'm still a work in progress.
That's the beauty of growth. You become more confident in yourself without believing you're better than everyone else.
You learn to accept rejection without turning it into a personal attack.
And you realize that some people are meant to walk beside you, while others are simply passing through.
My Final Thought ❤️
Be authentic. Be kind. Be accountable.
Keep your standards high, your heart soft, and your boundaries strong.
Don't shrink yourself to fit into places you've outgrown.
But don't become so convinced that everyone else is the problem that you stop looking at yourself, either.
You're not going to be everyone's cup of tea. And that's perfectly okay.
Some people prefer coffee. Some prefer tea. And some are just bitter no matter what you serve them! ☕π
Food for thought: Have you reached that point in life where being respected matters more than being liked?
Because I sure have. ❤️π―
