Helping friends
When a friend is in trouble, don't annoy them by asking if there is anything that you can do to help. Think up something appropriate that will really help them and just do it.
"Let me know if there's anything I can do" is probably the useless sentence that I can think of when I think of helping friends out. People that are overwhelmed by illness, grief or hardship can't or won't always ask for the help that they need. They are reluctant to ask. They feel they are bothering you or they have too much pride. That's a fact of life. That is the way people think and feel.
Are there dishes to be washed? Children to be watched? Lawns to be mowed? Meals to be prepared? The simplest tasks of ordinary life may be going undone during a crisis. Don't ask your friends what they need help with. Look with your own eyes. See it. Show up and do it. I believe in the saying that actions speak louder than words.
Help your friends by taking on some of the mundane, but essential, activities that they are too distracted to handle.
