The Cold Side of the Pillow — A Perimenopause Love Language

There are two types of people in this world:

People who sleep peacefully through the night…
…and those of us out here in the middle of the night fighting invisible internal campfires like we’re training for a survival show nobody signed up for.

Hello perimenopause, my old frenemy. 🙃

If you know, you KNOW. One minute you’re sleeping like a normal human being. The next minute you wake up at 2:13 AM feeling like your body just decided to recreate the surface of the sun for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Blankets kicked off. Hair stuck to your neck. You’re contemplating moving into the freezer section at Costco permanently.

And then… it happens.

You flip the pillow.

And suddenly… ✨the cold side✨ touches your face and for one brief, glorious moment… peace returns to the kingdom.

Listen — that cold pillow hit is not just comfort. It is therapy. It is medicine. It is emotional support fabric. It is the closest thing to a reset button when your internal thermostat is clearly being run by a drunk raccoon pressing random buttons.

The way we treat that cold spot is serious business too:

  • You don’t just lay down — you strategically place your face like you’re docking a spaceship.

  • You protect that cold side like it’s your last ounce of sanity.

  • And heaven help anyone — human, pet, or pillow thief — who tries to steal your cooling real estate.

And here’s the thing nobody talks about enough — these tiny moments of relief? They are small victories. And when your body is doing unpredictable things at random hours, you learn to celebrate the little wins:

  • A cool breeze through the window.

  • A fan hitting you at just the right angle.

  • Fresh sheets straight out of the dryer (and then immediately cooled down because… priorities).

  • And yes… flipping that pillow and feeling your soul leave your body in pure relief.

There’s humor in it. There’s frustration in it. And there’s also a weird kind of strength in learning to laugh through the chaos and find joy in something as simple as a cool patch of fabric at 3 AM.

So if you find yourself awake tonight, negotiating with your hormones like they’re tiny emotional terrorists… just know you’re not alone. Flip the pillow. Take the win. Embrace the tiny moment of calm.

Because sometimes survival looks like hydration, deep breaths… and a perfectly chilled pillow saving your sanity one hot flash at a time.

Now tell me honestly — are you:
