You know what I've learned as I've gotten older? Sometimes the quickest way to find peace is to stop expecting people to behave the way YOU would.
Because let's face it, some of us are out here expecting honesty, consideration, loyalty, and common sense from people who apparently missed that entire chapter of the instruction manual. 🤦♀️😂
And then we wonder why we're disappointed!
Here's the thing…
You can't control how people act, but you absolutely can control how much access they have to your time, energy, and emotions.
Not every comment deserves a response. Not every disappointment requires a confrontation. And not every person deserves unlimited opportunities to disturb your peace.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply stop giving something your attention.
❤️ Stop explaining yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you.
💜 Stop expecting everyone to have the same heart, values, or intentions you do.
🌷 Stop investing your energy where there's no appreciation or reciprocation.
✨ And stop allowing somebody else's behavior to determine the kind of day YOU have.
Now, does that mean we should have absolutely no expectations of people? Of course not!
Respect, honesty, and basic human decency are still reasonable standards. We're not lowering the bar until it's a tripping hazard just to keep people around! 😂
It simply means learning the difference between having standards and expecting everyone to meet them.
You can love people without giving them unlimited access to your life. You can forgive someone without inviting them back into the same position to disappoint you again.
And you can recognize somebody's behavior without making it your personal mission to change them.
That's where the real freedom begins.
At this stage of life, I'm learning that my attention is valuable, my energy isn't unlimited, and my peace is not a community resource. 😂
If something consistently brings confusion, negativity, or unnecessary drama into my life, I don't always need to make an announcement.
Sometimes I just need to quietly unsubscribe.
No argument. No dramatic farewell. Just a little less access and a whole lot more peace.
Because I've got better things to do than spend my days emotionally babysitting grown adults.
And quite frankly, that position doesn't pay nearly enough! 😂💜
Remember, where you place your attention is where you spend your energy. Spend it wisely.
