No fancy equipment. No complicated ingredients. No spending $14 on six artisanal dog biscuits because apparently our pets have developed a taste for boutique bakeries.

What You'll Need

For the dough:

• 1 cup whole wheat flour

• ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats

• 1 ripe banana, mashed

• ¼ cup natural peanut butter without xylitol

• 1 egg

• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 2–4 tablespoons water, as needed

For the filling:

• 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter

• 1–2 teaspoons mashed banana

• ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Let's Make Some Doggie Bakery Magic

1. Preheat the oven.

Set your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Because we're baking for dogs, not auditioning for The Great British Bake Off.

2. Make the dough.

In a bowl, combine the mashed banana, peanut butter and egg.

Add the flour, oats and cinnamon and mix until a soft dough forms.

If it's too dry or crumbly, add water one tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together.

3. Roll it out.

Lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼-inch thick.

Try to keep it relatively even.

We're making dog treats here, though, so don't stress if your rectangle looks more like the state of Maryland than an actual rectangle.

4. Add the filling.

Spread a thin layer of peanut butter over the dough.

Then add tiny little dabs of mashed banana and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Don't go crazy with the filling. Too much will make your rolls difficult to roll—and nobody needs a cinnamon-roll avalanche happening on their kitchen counter.

5. Roll it up.

Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a log.

Go slowly and gently.

Once it's rolled, use a sharp knife to cut it into little rounds, about ½-inch thick.

Look at you.

You've officially entered the dog bakery business.

6. Bake.

Place the little rolls cut-side up on your prepared baking sheet.

Bake for approximately 18–22 minutes, or until they're firm and lightly golden.

For smaller dogs, you can make the rolls smaller and adjust the baking time accordingly.

7. Let them cool completely.

This is the hardest part.

Not for you.

For the dog.

Because somehow they can smell a treat from three rooms away and will now stare at you like you've personally ruined their life.

Let the treats cool completely before serving.

🐾 A Few Important Notes

These are treats, not a replacement for your dog's regular balanced diet, so keep portions appropriate for your dog's size.

Use plain natural peanut butter with no xylitol. Xylitol is extremely dangerous to dogs.

Skip the nutmeg, raisins, chocolate and artificial sweeteners. Those don't belong anywhere near your doggie cinnamon roll.

And as with any new treat, start with a small amount to make sure your pup tolerates the ingredients.

How to Store Them

Once completely cooled, store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 5–7 days.

You can also freeze them for longer storage. Just thaw a treat when your furry little food critic decides it's time for another bakery visit.
