You know what's funny about getting older? You start realizing that not everybody who smiles in your face, laughs at your jokes, or calls you their friend is actually rooting for you. π€·♀️
And honey, some of those red flags we ignored over the years weren't even flags… they were full-blown PARADE FLOATS! π©π€£
Let's talk about it!
You've got the people who gossip about EVERYBODY, but somehow expect you to believe you're the one person they don't talk about. Oh, bless your heart! π
Then there are the ones who only remember you exist when they need a favor. Funny how their phone works perfectly when they need something, but suddenly loses service when YOU do. π±π
And let's not forget my personal favorites…
The ones who secretly compete with you instead of celebrating you. The ones who sit quietly while somebody disrespects you. And the ones who get downright offended when you finally start setting boundaries.
Imagine being upset because somebody decided they no longer wanted to be treated like crap! The audacity! π€£
But here's something I've learned, and it's important…
Not everybody who disappoints you is a bad person. And not every mistake is a reason to cut somebody off.
We're all human. We have bad days, misunderstandings, and moments when we could've handled things better. Lord knows I've had mine!
The difference is ACCOUNTABILITY.
Can someone admit when they're wrong? Can they apologize without turning it into your fault? Do their actions actually change?
Because an apology without changed behavior is just a really creative way of saying, "See you next time!" π
And here's another thing…
Trust isn't built by what people say when everything is going great. It's built by what they do when things get uncomfortable.
Pay attention to the people who respect your boundaries, celebrate your wins, protect your confidence, and tell you the truth even when it's not what you want to hear.
THOSE are your people. ❤️
At this stage of my life, I'm not interested in fake friendships, one-sided relationships, unnecessary competition, or constantly explaining why basic respect matters.
I'm still going to be kind. I'm still going to love hard. I'm still going to give people grace.
But I'm also going to pay attention to patterns instead of making excuses for them.
Because having a good heart doesn't mean everybody gets unlimited access to it.
And if protecting my peace means somebody loses their VIP pass?
Well, sweetheart, the box office is CLOSED! No refunds, no exchanges, and definitely no backstage passes! π️π€£
Life lesson: Choose people who bring peace, honesty, loyalty, and genuine happiness into your life. Not people who make you question your worth every other Tuesday.
And remember…
You don't have to hate somebody to decide they're no longer good for you. ❤️
Now I'm curious… Which one of these 12 red flags have you learned to NEVER ignore again? π☕
