You know what's one of the hardest lessons I've learned in life?
Sometimes the very people you're bending over backward to help are the same ones who wouldn't hesitate to throw you under the bus. And some would probably back that bus up just to make sure they got you! π€¦♀️π€£
Listen, I've always had a big heart. I believe in helping people, giving second chances, seeing the good in others, and treating people the way I'd want to be treated.
But honey, life has taught me a few things… and some of those lessons came with a tuition bill I NEVER agreed to pay! π
Here's the thing about having a good heart…
Not everybody who needs your help deserves unlimited access to your life.
Some people don't want to grow. They don't want accountability. They don't want solutions.
They want somebody to clean up their mess, excuse their behavior, and stick around for the next episode of As the Drama Turns. ππ€£
And the minute you stop rescuing them?
Suddenly, YOU'RE the selfish one.
Oh, I'm sorry. Was I supposed to sacrifice my peace, sanity, and happiness just to keep your chaos running smoothly? My mistake! ππ
But here's where the real lesson comes in…
❤️ You can care about someone without carrying their problems.
❤️ You can offer help without becoming responsible for their choices.
❤️ You can forgive someone without giving them another opportunity to hurt you.
❤️ And you can love somebody from a distance without feeling guilty about it.
I've learned that being kind doesn't mean being naive. Having empathy doesn't mean ignoring red flags. And being a good person certainly doesn't require you to keep setting yourself on fire to keep everybody else warm.
Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is step aside and let people experience the consequences of their own decisions.
Because let's face it, you cannot save someone who refuses to take responsibility for saving themselves.
And here's another little nugget of wisdom…
Pay attention to how people treat you when you can no longer do anything for them.
That will tell you more about their character than a thousand sweet words ever could.
At this stage of my life, I'm still going to be kind. I'm still going to love hard, laugh loud, and help people when I can.
But I'm also going to protect my peace, trust my instincts, and recognize when helping someone is actually hurting me.
That's not being cold. That's called learning the difference between having a good heart and being somebody's personal doormat.
And trust me, these feet were made for walking, not for being walked all over! π π€£
Moral of the story: Never lose your kindness because of somebody else's cruelty. Just get a little wiser about where you invest it. ❤️
Because everybody deserves compassion, but not everybody deserves a front-row seat in your life.
Now tell me… have you ever helped someone only to discover they were the very person you needed protecting FROM? π☕❤️
