Can’t Sleep? Have You Tried Being Unconscious? πŸ˜‚

“If you can’t sleep at night, it’s usually because you’re awake. Hope this helps.”

Well.

There you have it, folks.

Another problem solved by the internet. πŸ˜‚

You’re lying in bed at 2:17 a.m., staring at the ceiling, replaying a conversation from 2014, wondering if you should’ve said something different.

Meanwhile, your brain is like:

“Since we’re awake… wanna think about every embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?”

Sure, Brenda. Let’s do that.

And suddenly you’re mentally renovating a house you don’t own, planning a vacation you haven’t booked, worrying about a conversation that hasn’t happened yet, and remembering that one time you waved back at someone who wasn’t waving at you.

Sleep?

Absolutely not. We have IMPORTANT BUSINESS to attend to.

The problem usually isn't that you don't know how to sleep.

It’s that your brain doesn’t seem to understand that bedtime is not the appropriate time for a full staff meeting.

During the day, you’re busy.

You work.
You answer messages.
You take care of everybody.
You run errands.
You make decisions.
You solve problems.

Then you finally get into bed and your brain says:

“Excellent. She’s finally sitting still. RELEASE THE THOUGHTS.”

πŸ˜‚

But seriously, sometimes the best thing you can do is stop trying so hard to force yourself to sleep.

Put the phone down.

Dim the lights.

Take a few slow breaths.

Write down whatever is running through your head so you don't have to keep mentally rehearsing it.

Remind yourself that not everything needs to be solved tonight.

That text can wait.

That conversation can wait.

That decision can wait.

That imaginary argument you're absolutely crushing in your head?

Yep.

That can wait too.

And if your brain still insists on having a 3 a.m. committee meeting, at least remind it that you are not required to attend.

Sometimes peace starts with realizing:

“I don't have to figure everything out right now.”

Because tomorrow is another day.

And honestly?

Some problems look a whole lot less dramatic after eight hours of sleep.

And if all else fails…

Apparently the internet has determined that you should try being unconscious.

Hope this helps. πŸ˜‚
