๐ŸŽƒ Wickedly Good Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings with Caramel-Maple Dip ๐ŸŽ

Halloween desserts get a lot of attention for being cute.

But sometimes they're cute and taste like somebody decorated cardboard with orange frosting. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not today, witches.

We're making Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings—thick slices of crisp apple dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla batter, fried until golden and crunchy, then tossed in warm cinnamon sugar.

Think:

๐ŸŽ Apple cider donut
➕ ๐Ÿฅž Funnel cake
➕ ๐Ÿฉ Fried donut
➕ ๐ŸŽƒ Halloween mischief

And because we're not animals, we're making a salted caramel-maple dipping sauce to go with them.

These are best served warm, slightly messy, and preferably while wearing stretchy pants.

๐ŸŽ What You'll Need

For the Apple Rings

  • 3 large Honeycrisp, Granny Smith or Pink Lady apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Magic

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Tiny pinch of salt

For the Salted Caramel-Maple Dip

  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Small pinch of flaky or regular sea salt

For a Spooky Halloween Finish — Optional

  • Melted white chocolate
  • Melted dark or milk chocolate
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Candy eyeballs

Because apparently putting eyeballs on food immediately makes it Halloween. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ”ช First, Make Your Apple Rings

Peel the apples if you'd like—or leave the skin on for a little color.

Slice them horizontally into rounds about ¼- to ⅓-inch thick.

Use a small round cookie cutter, piping tip or paring knife to remove the core from the center of each slice.

And suddenly…

Apple donuts!

Pat the rings really well with paper towels.

Don't skip this. Removing that surface moisture helps the batter actually stick instead of sliding off the apple like it has somewhere better to be.

๐Ÿฅฃ Make the Cinnamon-Vanilla Batter

In a bowl, whisk together:

Flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, vanilla and melted butter.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir just until combined.

A few lumps are perfectly fine.

Overmix it and we'll start getting tough batter, and nobody requested a Halloween hockey puck.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Let's Fry These Babies

Pour about 1½–2 inches of oil into a heavy skillet or Dutch oven.

Heat to approximately 350°F.

Dip each apple ring into the batter, letting the excess drip off.

Carefully lower it into the hot oil.

Fry only a few at a time so we don't turn the pan into apple-ring rush hour.

Cook approximately 1–2 minutes per side, until puffed and beautifully golden.

Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate or wire rack.

✨ NOW Comes the Good Part

Mix your cinnamon, sugar and tiny pinch of salt together.

While the apple rings are still warm, toss or generously sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar.

And please eat one immediately for quality-control purposes.

That's not snacking.

That's responsible recipe management. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ Make the Caramel-Maple Dip

Add the caramel sauce, maple syrup and heavy cream to a small saucepan.

Warm over low heat, stirring until smooth.

Add a tiny pinch of sea salt.

That's it.

But somehow those few ingredients turn into something you'll want to pour directly into your mouth.

Please use a spoon.

We're trying to maintain some dignity here. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‘ป Now Let's Make Them Halloween Apple Rings

Pile the warm rings onto a platter and drizzle a few with melted chocolate.

Add Halloween sprinkles or strategically place a couple of candy eyeballs around the platter.

You could even drizzle white chocolate back and forth across a few rings like mummy bandages and add two little candy eyes.

OR…

Serve them stacked around a bowl of caramel-maple sauce and call them:

๐ŸŽ Wicked Witch Apple Rings

Put a little sign beside them:

“Take one… if you dare.” ๐Ÿ‘ป

Meanwhile everyone will take six.

๐Ÿง™‍♀️ Mortgage Mama's Kitchen Tip

These are definitely a serve-'em-warm dessert.

You can slice the apples and mix your dry ingredients ahead of time, but fry them shortly before serving for that crispy outside and warm, tender apple center.

If you absolutely have leftovers, refrigerate them and reheat them in an air fryer or oven rather than the microwave.

Because microwaving crispy fried food is basically saying:

“I'd like this delicious thing significantly sadder, please.” ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸŽƒ The Final Bite

Crispy.

Warm.

Cinnamony.

Sweet.

Slightly tart apple in the middle.

Caramel-maple sauce dripping down the side.

Basically everything October should taste like.

And while everyone else is bringing another bowl of candy to the Halloween party, you can walk in carrying a platter of these beauties like:

“Move aside, witches. I brought the good stuff.” ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ˜‚

Happy Halloween & happy frying! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‘ป
